Through the numerous events each year the startup success team has learned what works and what doesn’t. They’ve compiled their top tips to help you succeed during Collision.
Make the most of your startup profile
Make sure you fill out your startup profile as early as you can. Your profile will be the first impression other attendees will have of your company, so it’s important to make it stand out.
Know your company
What problem does your company solve? What solution does it offer? What separates your company from its competitors? These are common questions asked of startups. Have you prepared your seven-second, 30-second, two-minute, and five-minute pitches for each different attendee type? Being able to adapt quickly and often in stressful situations is something investors watch out for!
Know your audience
Do your due diligence. Make sure you are researching the companies, funds and attendees you are looking to connect with, and have a good understanding of their market and objectives. Be sure to personalise your emails, add names and bits of information you can find on their website or social media profiles.
The Collision apps will be released in the weeks leading up to Collision, they are a great way to navigate your way through the event. Download the mobile app before the event and play around with it, make sure you’re familiar with how it works.
Make sure to favourite talks and companies of interest, and filter by attendee type to build a shortlist of attendees to whom you’d like to reach out. From experience, a more personal message yields better results than spamming a generic message to multiple attendees.
What is an ‘activation’?
Activations are startup specific activities that take place before or during Collision. They include: PITCH, 40 words, Mentor Hours, Startup Sessions, Startup masterclasses and Startup roundtables. All activations operate on an application or sign up basis. You can read more information about our activations here.
Some activations say “coming soon” when will they open?
To make it easier for startups to keep track of all of all of our activations, the startup success team stagger the opening of some. You can see a guideline of when all activations open on your downloadable checklist available here.
Make the most of your tickets
Assign all of your tickets in order to get the most from the event. Brief your team on what your goals are for Collision. Be active in chats, reach out to the media, or connect and mingle with other attendees. You can see more information on your tickets here.
Research, research, research
